Judges Comments:

Grenache was long regarded as playing second fiddle to Tempranillo, and while that may have been true in Spain, in Southern France it’s key in the making of great Chateauneuf-de-Pape. As an earthy, spicy grape with red fruits, it’s similar in character to Syrah. Chalk Hill is family owned by the Harvey family and the grapes were sourced from the Slate Vineyard, which has Grenache plantings dating back to 1897. Aromas of dark plum and blackberry, the flavours are rich with fine tannins.

Pairing Recommendation:

Robust wines for robust food flavours. Try with the Sunday roast, burger and ribs, steak, sausages or game. Great with pizza and tomato-based pasta dishes. Take to a pot-luck dinner or a BBQ with the good friends.
