Galumkis - Polish stuffed cabbage

This traditional Polish dish is really tasty, and easy to prepare. The perfect excuse to introduce some international food to your weekly dinner menu.



  • 1 cabbage
  • 500 g pork mince
  • 1 cup rice, uncooked
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed or finely diced
  • 2 can chopped tomatoes
  • 1 egg
  • parsley, chopped

  1. Steam cabbage leaves in boiling water until leaves are softer, and cool. Take care not to overcook
  2. Saute diced onion and crushed garlic in large pan until translucent
  3. Mix pork, rice, onion, garlic, parsley , egg and seasoning in a bowl
  4. Place cooked cabbage leaves on a chopping board. Place a spoonful of meat and rice mixture on the cabbage leaf and roll like a burrito.
  5. Place rolls into the pan used to cook the onions and garlic
  6. Cover with chopped tomatoes
  7. Simmer at a low heat for approx 1 hour
